Volleyball drops fifth-straight

Ravens Volleyball lost a home match Saturday afternoon after leading after the first two sets.

The Missouri Valley College Vikings won three-straight sets to overcome the Ravens, 3-2.

After the Ravens won the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-18, the Vikings won the final three sets by scores of 25-20, 25-19, and 15-10.

The Ravens got off to a great start in the opening set, surging out to a 13-3 lead. They held a 20-10 lead later in the set, but the Vikings came roaring back to tighten the contest. A 9-2 run by MVC made the score 22-19 in favor of the Ravens, but the home side closed out the set for a 25-21 win to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

The two teams were neck-and-neck through the majority of the second set, but a late Ravens run gave the home side the advantage. Leading 16-14, the Ravens went on an 8-2 run and took the 25-18 set win to move in front 2-0 in the match.

The third set was much like the second as neither team built much of a lead through the first half of the set. Unlike the second set, though, it was the Vikings who took control late. The visitors closed out the set on a 6-3 run to win 25-20 and cut the Ravens match lead to 2-1.

The Vikings completed the comeback with wins in the fourth and fifth sets.

The Ravens finished the match with an attack percentage of .227. Haylie Dickerson had 18 kills to lead the Ravens, and she was joined in double figures by Regan Bruggeman's 16 kills and Mary Pat Taylor's 10 kills. Taylor also had 14 digs for the Ravens. Haley Cahill recorded 33 assists and Marissa Mantz added 23 assists. Evelyn Arreola had a team-high 48 digs.

The Ravens fall to 13-10 on the season and 7-7 in Heart play. They'll hit the road to take on Ottawa University in a non-conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
