Women's Soccer picked up a big home win on Friday evening.
The Ravens kicked off Homecoming weekend with a 2-0 win against the (RV) Clarke University Pride.
The Ravens opened the scoring in the early minutes as Christine McLaughlin won the ball away from a Pride defender, then sent a pass to Jenna Wilken. After playing around the Clarke keeper, Wilken sent a ball into the upper right corner of the goal to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead in the 9th minute.
Wilken was involved with the Ravens second goal, as well, sending a wonderful ball forward to a breaking Payton Vogelbacher. With a deft move past the Clarke keeper, Vogelbacher slotted her shot home to put the Ravens up 2-0 in the 29th minute.
The Ravens fought off Clarke's amped up pressure the remainder of the half to carry their 2-goal lead into halftime.
The final 45 minutes passed without a goal as the Ravens continued to keep the Pride from getting a good look at frame. Mackenzie Korzenecki was called on to make two saves in goal for the Ravens, as the Pride were limited to just 7 shots despite earning 8 corner kicks.
With the win, the Ravens improved to 10-5-1 and 7-2 in Heart of America play. The win also keeps the Ravens in front of the Pride in the third position in the conference standings, as Clarke falls to 6-1-1 in the Heart.
Next up for the Ravens is another home match at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23 against No. 7 Central Methodist University.
