Football Tailgating Policy – effective July 17, 2024
Benedictine College values activities that build a sense of community, promote enthusiasm for the College and its athletic teams and are welcoming of guests on campus. If done responsibly, the tailgating tradition at Benedictine can support these values. This “Tailgating Policy” is a part of the College’s alcohol policy expectations.
1. The Benedictine Community Code prohibits the use of alcohol on campus, except at events or in areas designated by the College. No open containers are permitted on campus, except in designated areas. Because of NAIA and College policies, no alcoholic beverages are permitted inside the football stadium, or in the vicinity of the visiting team.
2. The College reserved the right to designate tailgating areas. Immediately before and after home football games tailgating is permitted for legal-age individuals in:
a. The parking lot north of McDonald Hall and the adjacent areas immediately to the east and west of the lot (up to the sidewalks)
b. The designated portion of the west end of the Amino lot.
c. The practice football field west of Larry Wilcox Stadium.
3. Campus Security staff, and/or designated College officials, will address situations of:
a. Drinking in a non-designated area
b. Public intoxication
c. Providing alcohol to minors
d. Inappropriate behavior
e. Failure to comply with the directions of, or verbal abuse of, Security or College staff Police will be involved immediately.
4. Individuals and/or groups who are approached by Security, other College staff, or law enforcement officials must comply with the directions of these officials and produce an ID upon request. Individuals or groups who violate campus policies will be written up and subject to removal from campus and/or disciplinary action.
To support the successful implementation of this policy:
1. Campus Security staff members will patrol campus parking lots, campus grounds, and the stadium.
2. Law enforcement staff may be present inside the stadium to assist College staff as needed and to enforce the law.
3. The student parking policy will require all students cars to move their cars from the Amino Center, McDonald Hall parking lots and Football practice field to some perimeter parking areas (as a suggestion, please park in the parking lot south of Murphy Recreation Center, behind St. Michael’s Hall, St. Gabriel’s Hall, west & south of Mother Teresa Center) parking lot by 8:00 am on the Saturday of the 5 home football games: September 7, September 14, September 23, October 19 & November 9
a. Those lots will be used for alumni, guests, and visitor parking.
b. Students who do not move their cars will be cited for a parking violation.
4. Portable toilets will be in the McDonald Hall parking lot, and Football Practice Field from 9/7 – 11/11.
5. Sufficient trash containers will be in campus parking lots and the football practice field.

a. Murphy Recreation Center fire lane with no Vehicles
3. Campus Security staff, and/or designated College officials, will address situations of:
