No. 24 MNU takes four-game Heart series from Baseball

OLATHE – Benedictine Baseball dropped a four-game series on Friday and Saturday on the road against No. 24 MNU as the Heart schedule continued.

MNU won 2-1 and 8-3 on Friday and then earned wins of 4-2 and 9-3 on Saturday.

Game 1: MNU 2, Benedictine 1
Ben DeLaForest scatted 2 runs off 7 hits over 5 innings as he was able to hold the Pioneers offense in check before Jackson Sarver finished off the game.

Benedictine finished with 11 hits at the plate. Brice Martin, Brylan Haas, and Rhett Spell finished the game with 2 hits each while Ashton Neuman and Tyler Marchand finished with a double each. 

Game 2: MNU 8, Benedictine 3
The Pioneers opened the game up with 6 runs in the fourth inning, which proved to be the difference in the final outcome.

Lance Bolles suffered the loss, giving up 6 earned runs off 9 hits over three and one-third before Carson Kasl finished off the game, allowing a run off 4 hits.

Benedictine scored their 3 runs off 6 hits from six batters at the plate. Jaden Zimmerman finished with a double and RBI while Marchand added an RBI.

Game 3: MNU 4, Benedictine 2
The Pioneers scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning and limited Benedictine to just 2 runs over 7 innings off 7 hits in the first game of the Saturday doubleheader.

Sarver threw a complete game on the hill for the Ravens, giving up 4 runs off 5 hits with 3 strikeouts in 6 innings.

Martin and Jack Harpole finished with 2 hits each at the plate as Jack Minnis added a double with Zimmerman recording the Ravens lone RBI.

Game 4: MNU 9, Benedictine 3
The Pioneers used a grand slam in the bottom of the third to ignite their offense for a 7-run inning that chased starting pitcher Nicholas Mozingo off the hill for the Ravens in the series finale.

Mozingo pitched into the third inning, giving up 2 earned runs off 1 hit with 3 strikeouts before the Ravens needed three more pitchers – Evan DeMint, Ethan Arnold, and Andrew Baier – to finish off the Pioneers. 

Dominic Ferrari finished the game going 2 for 4 at the plate with a double and RBI. Neuman added a double and RBI,. Miles Holmquist added a double while Minnis added an RBI to round out the Ravens game at the plate.

Benedictine remains on the road for their next Heart series, traveling to Baldwin City to take on Baker University on Thursday and Saturday.
