Baseball named 2024 Conference Commissioners Association Champions of Character® Team Award winner

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – As part of the 2024 NAIA National Awards Day, the Association announced the two Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) Champions of Character® Team Award winners as the Benedictine College Baseball program was recognized as the men's team representative.

"Our program has always been about building great character people who represent Benedictine, the athletics department, and the program to the highest standard," said Raven Baseball head coach Eric Peterson. "To be honored with this award is incredibly humbling and we are truly grateful."

The Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) Champions of Character Team Award is given annually to one men's and one women's team for their exemplary character on the field, on campus, and in the community. In December 2023, 44 members of Benedictine College's (Kan.) baseball team embarked on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. The team donated more than 10,000 items, including medical kits, clothing, educational items, sports equipment, and two laptops, to areas in need. The team also engaged with the local community by visiting an orphanage, painting houses, and hosting a free youth sports camp for 125 children.

Under Coach Peterson, the Raven Baseball program has completed over 3,000 hours of community service in and around the Atchison Community through volunteering at the YMCA, Boys & Girls Club, the Benedictine chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, the Hunger Coalition and Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas.

The program earned recognition from the Heart of America Athletic Conference in July, which then allowed them to move on to represent the Heart for a potential national award.
