Baseball earns comeback win over University of St. Mary

Benedictine Baseball hosted a non-conference game with the University of St. Mary on Wednesday afternoon, as the two teams played a scheduled 9-inning game as part of a home-and-home series.

The Spires led 9-2 headed to the bottom of the fourth before Benedictine used a 4-run bottom of the fourth, a 2-run sixth and a 2-run seventh to cap off the comeback and earn a 10-9 win.

Brice Martin put the Ravens in front with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the seventh that the combination of Nolan Haas and Ryan Jackson were able to preserve on the hill for Benedictine.

Nathan Ogden earned the start on the hill. He went 2.2 innings, giving up 7 runs off 3 hits before Nelson Klein and Michael Carroll were the first two out of the bullpen. They each pitched a third of an inning, with Carroll allowing 2 runs off 2 hits. Johnny Andrews took over for Carroll and limited the Spires to just 1 city over 1.2 innings of work.

Haas entered in the top of the sixth and held the Spires scoreless for 3 innings to earn the win. Jackson entered in the ninth to record a 3 strikeout save.

Martin went 2 for 3 with 3 runs, 3 RBI, and a triple to go along with his 2-run home run. Dominic Ferrari went 3 for 3 with one of the Ravens 3 doubles and 2 RBI. Carson Hintz went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI, while Matthew Johnson went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and a double. JK Sparks added an RBI of his own as 9 of the Ravens 10 runs came via an RBI.

Benedictine returns to Olsen Stadium for a four-game Heart Series against Baker on Friday. Mother Nature has forced a change in the schedule with the series now taking place with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and a Noon doubleheader on Saturday.
