(8) Football secures Homecoming win over Missouri Baptist University 48-14

For the third time this season, the defense for (8) Benedictine tallied 6 or more sacks en route to a win.

Saturday's 48-14 win for the Ravens marked the third time in the past four games that Benedictine recorded 6 sacks defensively as the Ravens limited Missouri Baptist University to a new season low for rushing yards at 56 yards on 31 carries.

While the Raven defense limited the Spartans rushing attack, Benedictine's rushing attack allowed the Ravens to jump ahead to a 14-0 lead. Dalton Witherspoon scored a pair of rushing touchdowns inside the first 10 minutes of the game scoring on a 3-yard rush and a 6-yard rush.

Benedictine went to the air in the second quarter to extend their lead. Jackson Dooley connected on passing touchdowns of 14 yards to Joseph Lagafuaina and 46 yards to JaShawn Todd. After Harry Balke hit a 45-yard field goal, the Ravens took a 31-0 lead into halftime.

Missouri Baptist ended their scoreless drought early in the third quarter before Benedictine added a 41-yard field from Balke and a 7-yard touchdown connected from Dooley to Todd. 

Todd capped off the Ravens scoring on the day, this time adding the Ravens third rushing touchdown on an 8-yard carry midway through the fourth quarter.

Benedictine finished with 481 yards of total offense as they rushed for 144 yards and passed for 337 yards. Dooley finished with 308 yards on 23 completions while Todd finished with 94 yards receiving. On the day, Todd finished with 120 all-purpose yards. Jacob Gathright gave the Ravens a second receiver over 75 yards, finishing with 77 yards on 4 receptions. 

Blake Casteel recorded 3 sacks on defense for a loss of 21 yards as the Ravens finished with a total of 10 tackles for a loss of 49 yards. Blue Caplinger led the Ravens with 6 tackles, followed by Abram Phillips and Casteel with 5 tackles. Zachary LaCombe finished with a forced fumble, fumble recovery, and interception while Javhi Blomquist, Heath Baker, and Isaac Anderson added the other three sacks. Baker was also credited with a blocked field goal and extra point.

The Ravens will hit the road for their next two games. They take on Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo., next week before traveling to Olathe for a matchup with NAIA-ranked MNU to open up November.
