
(RV) Men's Lacrosse scores 21-3 win over Midland in home opener
Benedictine Men's Lacrosse earned a convincing win in their home opener on Friday.
The Ravens were steady offensively throughout the game, earning a 21-3 win over Midland University as they scored 5 goals in the first, second, and third quarters before capping off the night with a 6-goal fourth quarter.
Mac Postel Jr. put the Ravens on the board off an assist from Mason Eberle inside the first 3 minutes of the game. That wasn't the last time the duo would have their name called over the remainder of the game. Eberle finished the game with a total of 9 points, scoring a game-high 8 goals with his 1 assist. Postel Jr. finished with 5 points, scoring a second goal with 3 assists.
Benedictine held Midland scoreless through the first quarter, giving up their first goal to the Warriors inside the first 90 seconds of the second quarter. Midland scored back-to-back goals over 31 seconds before Benedictine added three more goals in the quarter to take a 10-2 lead at the half.
The Ravens scored 5 unanswered in the third quarter before the Warriors scored their final goal to start the fourth quarter. The Ravens answered that goal with 6 unanswered with the final goal of the game coming from Eberle off an assist from Charlie Louiree with just over one minute remaining in the game.
Midland finished the game with 42 total turnovers as Benedictine finished with a total of 29 caused turnovers. Jack Northrup led the Ravens defense with 7 caused turnovers. Charley McGlinn, Aiden Nicholson, and Carson Huerter added 4 caused turnovers each. CJ Besuzzi went the distance in goal for the Ravens. He finished the game with 5 saves while giving up three goals.
Offensively, Joseph Bianchi was the Ravens second-leading goal scorer behind Eberle with 5 goals. Joey Calabria added 3 goals while Zachary Torres, Liam Waldron and Jacob Meyer scored 1 goal each. Waldron led the Ravens with 4 assists, followed by Postel Jr. and Louree with 3. Torres and Bianchi finished with 2 while Calabria joined Eberle with 1 assist.
Benedictine will host a trio of NAIA-ranked opponents over Spring Break, starting with Aquinas (Mich.) on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
