Indiana Tech holds off comeback from (RV) Men's Lacrosse

(RV) Benedictine Men's Lacrosse played their best offensive game of the last week on Sunday, narrowly falling to Indiana Tech on Legacy Field.

The Ravens overcame an early deficit to lead late in the third quarter and into the fourth quarter before the Warriors scored what proved to be the game-winner with 57 seconds remaining to earn an 18-17 win.

After the first quarter, Indiana Tech jumped out to a 6-1 lead over Benedictine. So far this week, the second and third quarters have signaled an offensive drought for the Ravens. Sunday afternoon, the Ravens capitalized on two unreleasable 2-minute penalties from Indiana Tech that allowed them to outscore the Warriors 13-7 over the second and third quarters. 

Even with a 6-goal second quarter, the Ravens trailed 10-7 at the half. Zachary Torres and Joseph Bianchi scored on extra-man opportunities in the second quarter to ignite the scoring for the Ravens. Bianchi's goal started a streak of four straight goals for the Ravens that pulled Benedictine back within two goals at 9-7 before the Warriors took the three-goal lead into halftime.

The third quarter saw 27 combined shots and 10 total goals as the Ravens outscored the Warriors 7-3 to erase their halftime deficit and take a 14-13 lead into the fourth quarter. Mac Postel Jr. scored 2 goals and assisted on a third that came after he drew a penalty on Warriors' keeper Kyle TwoBulls that was unreleasable and allowed the Ravens to gain momentum offensively.

Postel Jr. scored 2 of the Ravens ' goals in the fourth quarter which allowed the Ravens to match the Warriors before Indiana Tech scored three straight inside the final 5 minutes to hang on for the win.

Mason Eberle joined Postel Jr. scoring 5 goals each. Joey Calabria added 3 goals while Bianchi finished with 2. Torres and Jordan Rodrguez scored 1 goal each to round out the scoring. Nine Ravens recorded assists, led by Rodriguez with 4. Torres finished with 3 while Brayden Hope joined Postel Jr. with 2. Carson Huerter, Liam Waldron, and Max Thomason joined Calabria and Eberle with 1 assist each.

John Paul Evans suffered the loss. He took over in goal for CJ Besuzzi and played the final 40 minutes of the game. He finished with 7 saves, coming up with a number of big saves that allowed the Ravens to stay within striking distance in the second half. Besuzzi finished with 3 saves.

Jack Northrup led the Ravens with 3 caused turnovers. Thomason went 19 of 27 on faceoffs as the Ravens won 7 of 11 in the second quarter and 9 of 11 in the third quarter as they mounted their comeback. Bianchi went 8 of 10 as the Ravens finished with a 27 of 37 advantage on faceoffs.

 Benedictine will hit the road on Wednesday, traveling to Columbia, Mo., to take on the Columbia College.
