(RV) Men's Lacrosse opens Heart play with road win over (RV) Mount Vernon Nazarene

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – Raven Men's Lacrosse earned its third straight win as they opened up Heart play on the road against (MV) Mount Vernon Nazarene University. 

(RV) Benedictine jumped out to a 6-2 lead and then held on for a 9-6 win to move to 5-4 on the season.

The shot tally was nearly identical over the first and second quarters, but it was the Ravens who were able to capitalize offensively. With the game tied at 1-1, the Ravens scored four unanswered to end the first and start the second quarter. Mason Eberle and Mac Postel Jr. scored between goals from Joey Calabria to push the Ravens to a 5-1 lead. 

Mount Vernon scored to pull within three only to allow the Ravens to score four straight to end the second quarter and begin the third. Charlie Louree gave the Ravens their four-point halftime lead before Brayden Hope, Eberle, and Calabria pushed Benedictine to a 9-3 lead before Mount Vernon closed out the game with four straight to end the game.

Calabria led the Ravens with 3 goals followed by Eberle and Postel Jr. with 2. Hope and Louriee finished with 1 goal each. Louree was joined by Liam Waldron to lead the Ravens with 2 assists. Max Thomason, Postel Jr., Carson Huerter, and Eberle finished with 1 assist each.

Jack Northrup led the Ravens defensive effort with 4 caused turnovers as CJ Besuzzi earned the win in goal. Besuzzi finished with 11 saves. Thomason led the Ravens with 5 groundballs while Waldron finished with 4. Thomason went 7 of 17 on faceoffs as the Ravens finished the game winning 8 of 19. 

The Ravens return home on Thursday, hosting Clarke University at 5 p.m. in Heart play on Legacy Field.
