Wrestling wins fifth-straight dual to start 2024 season

Ravens Wrestling picked up a convincing dual win against the Midland University Warriors on Thursday night in Atchison.

The Ravens defeated the Warriors 39-9, getting out to an early lead and closing out the team's fifth-straight dual win.

Calvin Miller started the scoring for the Ravens at 125 pounds, winning by technical fall, 19-4, in the second period. Then, with Midland open at 133 pounds, Charles Easterling was awarded 6 points to give the Ravens an 11-0 lead.

At 141, Coulter Rieschick took a 9-0 lead in the first period, but needed to escape a near fall in the second period before winning by TF, 19-3.

Midland's Zion Amersson defeated Dan Lantz at 149 pounds but Lantz nearly battled back after being down 7-0 in the first period. Lantz's comeback attempt fell just short, losing 9-8.

Kaleb Jestes cruised at 157, winning by TF, 17-0.

Christion Griggs continued the strong start to his season, winning by fall in the first period to give the Ravens a 27-3 advantage. With the Warriors open at 174, the Ravens lead ballooned to 33-3.

Jackson Perkins lost a 17-10 decision at 184 pounds, but with the Warriors open at 197, the Ravens had a 39-6 lead heading into the final match.

At 285, Mason Harris faced Midland's Zeph Sivels, who entered the match ranked No. 22 at 285 pounds. Harris dropped the match 6-2, unable to find points after trailing just 3-2 after the second period.

Next up for the Ravens will be their first Heart of America duals of the season as they take on Baker and Grand View on Wednesday, Dec. 4 in Baldwin City.
