(RV) Wrestling returns home with Heart dual win over (RV) William Penn
Benedictine Wrestling won a battle of programs in the receiving votes category of the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll in their first home action of 2025.
The Ravens earned a 27-26 win over William Penn University after the dual was settled by Criteria 8 of the tie-breaker procedures.
Trailing 26-20 headed into the 285-pound match, Benedictine's Mason Harris won on a disqualification over William Penn's Skyler Young to send the dual into the tiebreaker.
Jacob Campbell opened up the night for the Ravens at 125 pounds with a tech fall win, 19-3. William Penn won the next two weight classes by fall to take a 12-5 lead over Benedictine. Hayden Biggs battled back for a win by fall with 38 seconds remaining in his match at 149 pounds to pull the Ravens within a point in the team score at 12-11. Bigg's dramatic win over William Penn's Hector Diaz proved to play a key role in Benedictine's final result as the point swing allowed the Ravens to enter the final match within striking distance.
Trailing 22-16 with three matches remaining, the Ravens won the final three weight classes to cap the comeback. Christion Griggs started the comeback with a 17-10 win at 174 pounds that was followed by a win by fall for Doug Blaha with 37.3 seconds remaining in the second period at 197 pounds. Harris was leading on points headed to the third period before earning the win by disqualification setting up the tie.
The Ravens host another Heart dual on Friday, Jan. 17, when they welcome No. 17 Central Methodist University to campus.
