Softball wins second straight home doubleheader with sweep over Graceland

Raven Softball continued its six-game homestand on Thursday with a doubleheader sweep over Graceland University.

Benedictine earned a 7-1 win in the opener and then ended game two in five innings with an 8-0 win.

MacKenzie Pinkerton earned the start inside the circle in game one of the doubleheader and threw 6 innings to earn the win. She finished with 4 strikeouts while giving up a run off 3 hits before Alicia Armijo threw the final inning.

The big offensive blow came in the bottom of the fifth inning off the bat of Lenae Salinas. Salinas connected on a 3-run home run that pushed the Ravens out to a 6-0 lead. Madison Zaccardo matched Salinas with 3 RBI as she went 2 for 4 with a double. Ally Pickering also added a double to round out the Ravens offensive efforts.

In game two, Kera Willoughby earned the start inside the circle and threw the first 4 and one-third innings before Armijo finished off the Yellowjackets with a scoreless two-thirds of an inning in the fifth. Willoughby held the Yellowjackets scoreless off 1 hit with 3 strikeouts.

The Ravens only needed 4 hits to score their 8 runs as Graceland committed 3 errors defensively. Zacarrdo finished the game with a 2RBI double while Kyle Hays and Pickering finished with 2 RBI each. 

Benedictine wraps up its six-game homestand on Saturday at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader with Peru State University. The Ravens will hold their annual Senior Day on Saturday as well.
