
(18) Softball goes 2-2 at inaugural NAIASB_ Invitational
SHAWNEE, Okla. – Benedictine Softball took part over the weekend in the inaugural NAIASB Invitational and posted a 2-2 record.
The No. 18-ranked Ravens won both games on Saturday, 15-4 over (RV) Mid-America Christian and 1-0 over Montreat (N.C.), and they suffered a pair of losses on Sunday to No. 15 Midland 8-4 and No. 8 Oklahoma City 8-4.
Benedictine 15, MACU 4
The Ravens broke open their first game of the Invitational with an 8-run seventh inning as they opened up with a 9-run win.
Benedictine scored 15 runs off 15 hits. Rhiannon Martin recorded a home run, Amanda Waymire added a pair of doubles while Alma Garcia, Renay Myers, and Kaelyn Fisher added a double each. Fisher and Garcia led the Ravens with 3 RBI, followed by Martin, Waymire, Chloe Strickland, and Alena Velilla with 2 RBI each.
Lily SinghDhillon earned the win, throwing 4 and two-thirds innings inside the circle for the Ravens. She finished with 5 strikeouts while giving up an earned run off one hit. Lacey Foster closed out the game over 2 and one-third innings, striking out 3 while allowing 2 runs off 2 hits.
Benedictine 1, Montreat 0
The Ravens scored in the bottom of the first and that was all that was needed for Bailey Selvage to pick up her first win of the season inside the circle.
Selvage recorded 8 strikeouts while earning a 3-hit, complete-game shutout.
Megan Forsman recorded a double while Amanda Waymire recorded the lone RBI for the Ravens.
Midland 8, Benedictine 4
A 6-run third inning proved to be the difference in the outcome of the Ravens first game on Sunday.
Lacey Foster suffered the loss for the Ravens inside the circle. She gave up 8 runs off 12 hits over 5 and two-thirds innings.
Alena Velilla recorded a double while Megan Forsman, Chloe Strickland, Renay Myers, and Riley Kennedy all recorded an RBI.
Oklahoma City 8, Benedictine 4
Oklahoma City scored 5 runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win over the Ravens in the Invitational finale.
Bailey Selvage suffered the loss, giving up 3 earned runs off 7 hits with 8 strikeouts.
Kaelyn Fisher recorded a home run and two RBI at the plate for the Ravens. Alena Velilla added a double while Rhiannon Martin and Alma Garcia finished with an RBI each.
Benedictine remains on the road Tuesday, traveling down Highway 73 to take on the University of St. Mary for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
