SHAWNEE – Benedictine played a four-game appearance in a tournament down in the Kansas City Metro on Saturday and Sunday finishing the weekend a 3-1.
Saturday, the Ravens earned a split, beating Concordia (Neb.) 9-0 in five innings before falling to Kansas Wesleyan University 5-4. Sunday, they beat Briar Cliff 9-3 and then walked off Waldorf in six innings, 11-3.
Benedictine 9, Concordia 0
Against the Bulldogs, Lily SinghDhillon earned the win inside the circle. She threw a complete-game, no-hitter as the Ravens opened up the tournament with a win. SinghDhillon finished with 9 strikeouts over five innings.
At the plate, Kaelyn Fisher and Alena Velilla recorded home runs for the Ravens. Both finished with 3 RBI each while Ryan Cooper and Megan Forsman added an RBI each.
Kansas Wesleyan 5, Benedictine 4
The Coyotes scored 4 runs in the second inning and then held off a late-inning rally by the Ravens in Benedictine's second game on Saturday.
Lacey Foster earned the start for the Ravens inside the circle and threw into the second inning, giving up 3 earned runs off 2 hits. Bailey Selvage entered in relief and threw the final 6 innings, scattering 2 hits with 12 strikeouts.
Rhiannon Martin recorded a home run at the plate while Megan Forsman and Alena Velilla added a double each. Martin, Velilla, and Riley Kennedy were all credited with an RBI.
Benedictine 9, Briar Cliff 3
The Ravens overcome a 3-run bottom of the first by the Chargers to earn the first win of the day on Sunday.
Benedictine scored 3 runs in the top of the second and then added to that total as they held Briar Cliff scoreless for the remaining 6 innings.
Lilly SinghDhillon earned a complete game win inside the circle. She gave up 2 earned runs off 7 hits with 9 strikeouts.
Alma Garcia paced the Ravens at the plate with 2 home runs while Amanda Waymire and Riley Kennedy each added a home run. Garcia finished with 4 RBI, followed by Waymire with 2. Rhiannon Martin, Chloe Strickland, and Kennedy added an RBI each.
Benedictine 11, Waldorf 3
The Ravens scored 5 in the fifth and 2 in the sixth to earn their second run-rule shorted win of the tournament in the finale against the Warriors.
Sam Bertoncino singled in Amanda Waymire to give the Ravens the run-rule in the bottom of the sixth.
Lacey Foster and Bailey Selvage combined inside the circle for the win. Foster threw the first 2 and a third, giving up 1 earned run off 4 hits while Selvage threw the final 3 and two-thirds to earn the win. Selvage finished with 9 strikeouts while giving up a run off 3 hits.
Benedictine finished the game with 11 total hits, six of which were for extra bases. Rhiannon Martin hit 2 home runs, followed by Alena Velilla and Alma Garcia. Velilla and Garcia also added a double. Martin and Garcia finished with 3 RBI each, while Velilla added 2 RBI. Amanda Waymire and Chloe Strickland joined Bertoncino with an RBI each.
The Ravens are scheduled to host a doubleheader this week on Ravens Field with Ottawa, but Mother Nature is likely to force a schedule change. The doubleheader is currently scheduled for Wednesday but the two schools are in the process of pushing it back to Thursday, pending Ottawa's ability to get approval and transportation to Atchison on Thursday.
