Softball splits 2025 home opener

Ravens Softball split their first home doubleheader of the 2025 season on Thursday afternoon.

The (20) Ravens won Game 1, 6-1, before dropping the second game, 5-2, to the Ottawa University Braves.

Game 1

The Ravens won their home opener, 6-1, behind a complete game from Bailey Selvage. The junior pitcher gave up a run in the top of the first inning before shutting the Braves down in the final six innings. She finished with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks and is now 4-3 on the season.

Alena Velilla gave the Ravens the lead in the bottom of the second when she launched a 2-run homer with Abby Reynolds on base.

Kaelyn Fisher added to the lead with a 2-run single in the third inning, bringing home Amanda Waymire and Megan Forsman. The final Ravens runs came on RBI singles by Angelina Postel and Alma Garcia in the fifth inning.

Fisher and Forsman each had 2 hits to lead the Ravens.

Game 2

The Ravens got in their own way in the 5-2 loss to cap off the doubleheader. Five errors led to 3 unearned runs behind pitcher Lily SinghDhillon.

The Ravens took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but the Braves answered with a run in the third, and 2 runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings.

The Ravens bats notched 6 hits in the contest but ultimately left 6 runners on base, unable to capitalize on scoring chances after the opening inning. Rhiannon Martin had 2 hits and an RBI, and Chloe Strickland also had two hits and drove in a run.

SinghDhillon gave up just 2 earned runs in 7 innings pitched, picking up 5 strikeouts. She moves to 3-1 on the season.

The Ravens (10-6) remain at home for their next doubleheader, a 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8 start against McPherson.
