Softball's Alena Velilla named Heart Hitter of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Benedictine Softball earned weekly Heart honors this week for the first time season as Alena Velilla was named the Heart Softball Hitter of the Week, presented by Musco.

Velilla helped guide the Ravens to a 4-2 week as the Ravens split doubleheader with Ottawa University and McPherson College before closing out the week with a sweep over Bethany (Kan.) College on Sunday.

For the week, Velilla hit .471 with a 1.059 slugging percentage as she finished the week with 8 hits (2 doubles, a triple, 2 home runs), and 7 RBI.

Velilla is now hitting .350 on the year with a .683 slugging percentage over 20 games. She has 21 total hits that includes a team-high 6 doubles. She is second on the team with 4 home runs.

Benedictine travels to St. Louis, Mo., on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Missouri Baptist University before turning home on Saturday for a doubleheader with the College of St. Mary on Ravens Field.
