Ravens Softball picked up a sweep at home on Saturday afternoon.
The (RV) Ravens defeated the Missouri Valley College Vikings, 4-3, in extra innings in the first game, then closed out the sweep with a 4-0 win in Game 2.
Game 1
The Ravens won an extra-inning contest in the opener after letting a 3-0 lead slip away.
The Ravens got on the board in the fourth inning with a 2-run double by Renay Myers. They made it 3-0 in the fifth inning when Rhiannon Martin drove in Riley Kennedy with a sacrifice fly.
However, the Vikings answered back with 2 runs in the sixth inning and then another run in the top of the seventh, sending the game into extra innings.
Megan Forsman led off the bottom of the ninth with a double, then scored the winning run on Sam Bertoncino's single to right-center field as the Ravens took the first game, 4-3.
Lily SinghDhillon pitched the first 8.1 innings for the Ravens and allowed 2 earned runs and struck out 6 batters. Lacey Foster (5-3) came on in relief, getting the final two outs in the top of the ninth to earn the win.
Game 2
The Ravens got an extremely efficient pitching performance from Bailey Selvage in the second game. Selvage pitched six scoreless innings, gave up just 3 hits, and struck out a pair of Vikings batters. Selvage (12-9) needed just 60 pitches in her six frames of work.
Foster came on in relief of Selvage, pitching a scoreless final inning to help the Ravens complete the sweep.
The lead came early in the game for the Ravens as Martin doubled home Kennedy in the bottom of the first, and then Martin scored on a double by Alma Garcia to put the home side up 2-0.
Kennedy scored again in the bottom of the third inning with some help from a Vikings error, and then Kennedy scored Ryan Cooper with a bunt single in the bottom of the fourth to close out the scoring.
Kennedy had 2 hits, 2 walks and stole 2 bases in the win. Cooper had 2 hits and stole 3 bases, and Garcia also finished with a pair of hits.
The Ravens (28-18, 13-7 Heart) now look ahead to the final two doubleheaders of the regular season – first a road DH Friday, April 25 at MidAmerica Nazarene University before the final home contests of the season Saturday, April 26 against Baker University.
