(5) Women's Lacrosse earns first shutout of the season

MARSHALL, Mo. – No. 5-ranked Benedictine Women's Lacrosse limited Missouri Valley College to just 3 total shots on Monday as they took on the Vikings in a non-conference road game.

Benedictine held a 45-3 advantage in shots with 36 shots on goal as they earned a 27-0 win over Missouri Valley for their first shutout of the season.

Kaylen Moore scored the Ravens 10th goal of the game off an assist from Mackenna Hill with just under 90 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Benedictine led 11-0 after the first quarter and added a 7-goal second quarter to lead 18-0 at the half.

Benedictine held Missouri Valley without a shot in the second quarter and again in the fourth quarter as the Ravens tallied a total of 2 saves. Molly Owen earned the win in goal, playing the first half with a save before Monica Klecan played the second half, finishing with the second save. 

The Ravens offensive attack was very balanced with 10 players contributing to the final 27-goal total. Chanterra Allen and Lorelei Siegel led the Ravens with 6 goals each. Moore finished with 4 goals and a team-high 5 assists. Lile Chekas scored 3 goals, followed by Marguax Gelbach and Hill with 2 goals. Kiera Russell, Ainsley Willingham, Alexa Hildenbrand, and Ava Moore scored 1 goal each. Hill finished with 2 assists, followed by Russell, Allen, Emma Rushing, and Chekas with 1 assist each.

Defensively, Rushing and Moore led the Ravens with 2 caused turnovers each. Siegel added 4 ground balls with Willingham with 3 ground balls. Russell led the Ravens with 7 draw controls, followed by Hill with 4. Moore and Willingham finished with 3 draw controls each to round out the top contributors to the Ravens 25 total draw controls.

Benedictine returns to Heart play on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. game with Midland University on Legacy Field. They will close out the week on Saturday with another Heart game with Mount Mercy University at 11 a.m.
