Sutton opens Indoor Season for Track & Field with A standard in Women's Weight Throw

LAWRENCE – The Indoor Season got underway on Saturday as members of the Raven Track & Field team competed at the annual Bob Timmons Challenge hosted by the University of Kansas.

Saturday's competition was highlighted by the throw of Madison Sutton in the Women's Weight Throw. She earned a first-place finish with a throw of 17.44 meters (57-02.75 feet) to hit the NAIA "A" Qualifier mark for the Indoor National Championships. Sutton also took fourth place in the Women's Shot Put with a mark of 12.49 meters (40-11.75 feet).

Caroline Cobo also had a top finish, taking first place in the Women's 3000 meters with a time of 10:26.72. That time was good enough for the NAIA "B" Qualifier mark for the Indoor National Championships.

The team is scheduled to return to action on Friday and Saturday in Maryville, Mo., at the two-day Mell Tjeerdsma Classic hosted by Northwest Missouri State University.
