Men's Soccer returned home and picked up its third win of the season Monday evening.
The Ravens topped the Avila University Eagles, 2-0, scoring a goal in each half.
The (RV) Ravens were knocking on the door for the majority of the first half and finally knocked the door down in the 43rd minute. After the Ravens earned a free kick, Diego Acuna sent a cross into the box and found Adem Aroua who was able to deflect it past the Eagles keeper for the goal.
The Ravens created several opportunities throughout the first half prior to Aroua's goal, notching 4 shots on goal and four corner kicks. However, the Eagles back line did well to catch the Ravens out of position as the home side was whistled offside four times. One of those times came on a play where Aroua passed forward to Norberto Montero and Montero slipped a shot past the keeper, but the flag was raised by the assistant referee to negate the goal. Still, the Ravens held the Eagles without a shot on goal and with Aroua's goal late in the half, the Ravens held a 1-0 advantage at the break.
The Eagles put more pressure on the Ravens defense in the second half, but it was the Ravens with the second goal of the game in the 70th minute. Acuna sent a bending cross into the box and Kody Argaez raced forward for a one-touch goal to double the Ravens lead, which they held for the remainder of the game.
Carlos Flores played all 90 minutes in goal for the Ravens, but never had to make a save. The Eagles had 9 shots but none were on goal.
Next up for the Ravens (3-1) is a three-match road streak starting with a Saturday, Sept. 7 contest at Missouri Baptist.
