Men's Soccer falls in battle of ranked teams

Men's Soccer lost a home match between top-20 teams Wednesday.

The (19) Ravens lost 3-1 to the (8) Bellevue University Bruins.

The Bruins got on the board first, earning a corner kick early in the first half. The resulting deflections in the box led to a goal by Buster Honeywood to put the visitors up 1-0 in the 8th minute.

The Ravens had a couple opportunities to equalize, notably a close chance by Norberto Montero, a free kick by Diego Acuna and a shot by Luca Nicotra, but the Bruins keeper was up to the task. Bellevue held their one-goal lead at the break.

The Ravens didn't take long to knot up the score after halftime. Acuna settled the ball, turned and unleashed a shot from distance that was perfectly slotted into the upper left corner of the goal, leveling the score at 1-1 in the 47th minute.

The Bruins took the lead back 20 minutes later when a ball was played into the box. A Bruins player darted in and Ravens keeper Noah Reuscher went to play a possible deflection, but the ball slipped by all players into the net to put the Bruins up 2-1.

Bellevue put the game away with their third goal, this one coming in the 81st minute.

The non-conference loss drops the Ravens record to 8-2 on the season as the Bruins improve to 7-0-2. The Ravens return to conference action at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 at home against Grand View University.
