(22) Women's Soccer secures Family Weekend shutout over William Penn

Women's Soccer earned a shutout win Saturday night.

The (22) Ravens defeated the William Penn University Statesmen 1-0.

Emma Strecker got the Ravens going 13 minutes into the game. After Nicole Patterson's shot deflected off the WPU keeper and then the cross bar, Hailey White knocked a pass to Strecker who put the ball into the net to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead.

That single goal held up for the next 77 minutes. The Ravens dominated possession against the Statesmen, keeping all the action in the WPU defensive half. The Ravens had 16 total shots and 12 shots on goal, compared to just 2 shots on goal for WPU. The Ravens also had 14 corner kicks, but were unable to find a second goal in the game.

Caroline Gyllenborg got the start in goal for the Ravens, making two saves to earn the clean sheet.

While the Ravens didn't find a second goal, they earned the win and improved to 8-3 overall, and 4-2 in Heart of America Conference play.

Next up for the Ravens is a three-game road trip that starts Wednesday, Oct. 6 at Grand View University.
