Women's Soccer advances in Heart Postseason Tournament with 3-0 shutout over Grand View

Ravens Women's Soccer secured their spot in the quarterfinals of the Heart Postseason Championship Tournament on Saturday.

The (23) Ravens defeated the Grand View University Vikings 3-0 in the opening round, with every goal coming in the second half.

The Ravens opened the scoring with just under 30 minutes to play. Riley Degner lofted a ball into the box and Rachel Beffa was there to head it into an open net to put the Ravens up 1-0.

Just a minute later, the Ravens doubled their lead. Beffa lined up a corner kick, sending it into the box and Gracie Eckardt was there to head it past the Vikings keeper to give the Ravens a 2-0 lead.

The Ravens grabbed complete control of the game with 21 minutes left to play. Degner put a shot on goal that was saved by GVU's Celenka Hommel. Degner and Hommel collided on the play, with Hommel going to the ground. On the rebound, Kourtney Koc sent a shot into the open net, putting the Ravens up 3-0. The Ravens defense made that score stick, keeping the Vikings off the board the remainder of the game as Olivia Berry earned a clean sheet. She made 5 saves in the game.

The first 45 minutes were scoreless as neither team found a goal. The Ravens nearly had a goal with 10 minutes to play before half, but Madeline Stewart's free-kick deflected off the crossbar.

Overall, the Ravens controlled most of the possession in the first half, recording 10 shots to Grand View's 3 shots. However, all of the Vikings shots were on goal, forcing Berry to make 3 saves in the first half. The Ravens had one shot that was blocked by a Viking defender, plus Stewart's free-kick that deflected off the crossbar.

The Ravens also out-shot the Vikings in the second half, 12-4. The Ravens earned 13 corner kicks in the game, scoring on Eckardt's header.

Next up for the Ravens (14-4) will be the winner of the Missouri Valley College vs MidAmerica Nazarene University contest, which kicks off at 6 p.m. Saturday. The quarterfinal contest will be played on Wednesday, Nov. 10.
