Women's Soccer opens up 2023 with home win

Women's Soccer opened up the 2023 season with a win in Thursday's home-opener against the Friends Falcons.

The Ravens pressured the Falcons all game and earned a 1-0 win thanks to a second-half goal by Sam Mausbach.

The Ravens controlled proceedings in the opening half but had nothing to show for it after 45 minutes. The offensive pressure finally paid off for the Ravens 12 minutes into the second half.

After forcing a corner, Rachel Beffa sent an in-swinger into the box. Faith Lewis rose above the defense to head it towards the goal and Mausbach deflected it into the goal to put the Ravens up 1-0.

While the Ravens weren't able to find a second goal in the contest, they never allowed the Falcons to seriously threaten to level the score.

The Ravens racked up 25 shots Thursday night, limiting the Falcons to just 2 shots – none of which came in the second half.

The Ravens were certainly the aggressor in the first half outshooting the Falcons 10-2 in the opening 45 minutes and drawing a pair of corner kicks.

The two best chances deflected off the crossbar, keeping the teams level at 0-0 at the halftime break. Ravens keeper Mackenzie Korzenecki saved the lone shot on goal by the Falcons.

The Ravens (1-0) will remain at home for their next nonconference matchup, a 7:30 p.m. tilt against Southwestern on Thursday, Aug. 24.
