Hot start fuels Women's Soccer win

A first-half flurry sent Women's Soccer past the Doane Tigers Wednesday night.

The Ravens scored a trio of goals before 10 minutes had ticked off the clock, and went on to win 4-0.

The Ravens grabbed a 1-0 lead just five minutes into the game when Faith Lewis passed forward to Rachel Beffa, who was able to chip over the Doane keeper for the goal.

A minute later, Annie Hoog doubled the Ravens lead from the edge of the box thanks to an assist by Sam Mausbach.

The Ravens lead increased to 3-0 just a couple minutes after that. Jenna Wilken's shot was saved but Beffa was there to knock it in for her second of the game.

The visiting Tigers weren't able to put much pressure in the attacking half in the opening 45 minutes. Doane had 3 shots but none on goal as the Ravens Mackenzie Korzenecki wasn't called on to make a single save in the first half.

The first goal of the second half, and the fourth of the game for the Ravens, came via an own-goal by the Tigers. Sam Mausbach sent in a nice cross from the right side and the Tigers defenders knocked it into their own goal in an attempt to clear it.

The Ravens had a couple more chances later in the game but were stopped, but it ended in a 4-0 win for the home side.

In total, the Ravens outshot the Tigers 27-4 and 15-0 in shots on goal. Neither Korzenecki nor Madison Smith were forced to make a save for the Ravens.

Next up for the unbeaten Ravens (3-0-1) is a matchup against No. 12 Columbia College at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2 at home on Legacy Field.
