Women's Soccer has offensive explosion

An offensive outburst sent Women's Soccer to a big win Wednesday night.

The Ravens defeated the Avila University Eagles 10-2 at Legacy Field.

The Ravens had an explosive first half but were slowed by a high back line by the Eagles that led to several offside calls in the early moments. An Avila turnover in the box turned the tide as Rachel Beffa scored the opening goal of the match in the 19^th minute. It wouldn't be the last.

Faith Lewis scored the second goal in the 26^th minute. She made a run forward then had a quality give-and-go with Christine Znidarsic to set up the goal

Five minutes later Annie Hoog sent forward a long pass and Payton Vogelbacher scored to make it 3-0.

Lizzy Gresch scored the fourth goal after Rebecca Slaten sent a ball into the box in the 34^th minute.

Avila notched their first-half goal in the 35^th minute to make it 4-1 Ravens, but the home side answered in the 37^th minute with a Hannah Phillips goal on a free kick just outside the box.

Vogelbacher topped things off with 15 seconds to play before half, scoring her second of the half on another assist by Slaten.

The Ravens attack continued having success in the second half. Lewis notched her second goal of the game with a header on a Beffa free kick in the 51^st minute. Two minutes later, Beffa scored her second of the game on a nice cross into the box from Mausbach, which started a string of Beffa goals. She scored two more goals 10 minutes later to finish the game with four in the game.

An Eagles goal closed out the scoring with the Ravens coming out on top 10-2.

With the win the Ravens finish their season-opening homestand with a 4-1-1 record. They'll close out the non-conference portion of their schedule Saturday, Sept. 9 at Concordia, Neb., and then start Heart of America play the following Saturday at Grand View University. The Ravens return home at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20 against Graceland.
