Women's Soccer topples Bellevue Bruins

Women's Soccer picked up a big win at home Wednesday evening.

The Ravens downed the Bellevue University Bruins, 4-0, handing the visitors just their second loss of the season.

Both teams were able to create some scoring opportunities in the opening 45 minutes, but it was the Ravens who were able to cash in.

The opening goal came in the 30th minute when Christine Znidarsic sent a cross in from the right side, finding Jenna Wilken for a header that beat the Bruins keeper to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead, which they held at halftime.

Prior to that goal, Payton Vogelbacher had a couple tries at goal that were saved. On the defensive end, keeper Mackenzie Korzenecki made 3 saves to keep the Bruins off the scoreboard.

The Ravens held their one-goal advantage for much of the second half before the floodgates opened. First, Lizzy Gresch sent a bouncing ball over the Bruins keeper and Mollie Finley was able to run it down and slip the ball into goal to make it 2-0 in the 72nd minute.

Just 2 minutes later, Anna Bolger battled her way through a handful of Bruins defenders and slotted a shot past the keeper to give the Ravens a 3-0 lead.

For the freshmen Finley and Bolger, the goals were the first of their respective careers.

Wilken put a nice bookend on the game, scoring on an assist from Vogelbacher to close out the scoring and match her opening goal. Wilken leads the Ravens with 6 goals on the season.

Korzenecki closed out the game with 4 saves to earn the clean sheet.

The Ravens (6-3-1) return to Heart of America action at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 at home on Legacy Field.
