SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Benedictine Volleyball posted a 3-1 record over the weekend, taking part in the annual Siouxland Invitational.
The (RV) Ravens split their Saturday matches, beating Dordt 3-0, before beating (RV) Dakota State 3-2. They opened play on Saturday with a 3-0 loss to No. 9 Jamestown before wrapping up the trip with a 3-1 win over (RV) Dakota Wesleyan.
Benedictine hit .232 in their opening sweep over Dordt as they won 25-16, 25-20, 25-16. The Ravens finished with 38 kills on 99 attempts in the win.
Individually, Hokulani Sagapolu finished with 11 kills on 28 attempts. Winny Harris added 8 kills on 12 attempts while Mahala Sewell and Maura Lickteig added 6 and 5 respectively. Haley Cahill anchored the attack with 18 assists while Amber Allen finished with 10.
Defensively, Evelyn Arreola led the back row with 10 digs, followed by Sagapolu with 9. Harris added 2 solo blocks and a block assit while Lickteig and Sagapolu added a solo block each.
In the win over Dakota State, the Ravens won the second and third sets after losing the opener. Dakota State took the fourth set and then Benedictine clinched the match with a 15-13 win in the fifth set.
Benedictine finished with 66 kills as a team, hitting .168 in the win. Lickteig led the attack with 15 as four Ravens finished in double figures. Regan Bruggeman and Sagapolu added 13 while Mahala Sewell finished with 12. Cahill anchored the attack with 26 assists while Allen finished with 20.
Defensively, Sagapolu finished with a double-double, leading the team with 26 digs. Arreola added 24 digs while Cahill added 13. Harris finished with 4 block assists while Lickteig added 2 block assists and 2 solo blocks.
The first match on Saturday was a rematch of the Ravens 2023 NAIA Tournament appearance. Jamestown finished the match hitting .319 while Benedictine hit .265.
Lickteig finished with 8 kills on 11 attempts, followed by Lucy Drexel, Sagapolu, and Bruggeman with 7 kills each. Cahill and Allen each finished with 16 assists as the Ravens finished with 38 total assists.
Defensively, Arreola was the only Raven in double figures on the back row with 13 digs. Lickteig finished with 3 block assists while Drexel added 2.
In their weekend finale against Dakota Wesleyan, the Ravens rattled off wins of 25-23, 25-17, and 25-20 after dropping the opener.
They finished the match with 61 kills, hitting .257. Four Ravens reached double digits on the attack, led by Bruggeman with 14. Sewell, Sagapolu, and Lickteig finished with 10 kills each. Cahill added 35 assists while Allen finished with 18 as the team recorded 57 total assists.
Defensively, Arreola finished with 34 digs while Sagapolu added another double-double with 10 digs. Lickteig finished with 4 block assists followed by Harris, Sewell, and Drexel with 3 block assists each.
Benedictine returns home with their 6-2 overall mark to host the University of St. Mary at 7 p.m. on Wednesday inside the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium.
