
(RV) Park takes 4-set Homecoming match from (24) Volleyball
Despite a late comeback effort, the Ravens dropped the opening set, 25-22. Park rattled off an 8-point run to take a 17-11 lead in the first set, then led 21-14 before the Ravens pushed back, cutting the deficit to 2 points. However, Park closed out the set to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Park took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-16 win in the second set. Like in the first set, the Pirates took a 17-11 lead, but unlike in the first set, the Ravens were unable to close the deficit, losing by 9 points.
Through two sets, the Pirates had an 8-2 advantage in blocks and were out-hitting the Ravens .274 to .107.
The Ravens did find an answer in the third set, winning 25-20. The Ravens never let the Pirates run off a scoring streak like the visitors did in the first two sets, turning a 17-14 lead into a 25-20 win. Haley Cahill's ace put the finishing touches on the 5-point win as the Ravens cut the Pirates match lead to 2-1.
The Ravens were a point away from sending the match to a decisive fifth set, but a Park comeback ended the match in the fourth set.
The Ravens were down 13-11 but returned to take a 24-21 lead. Just a point away from a set win, the Pirates scored 5 points in a row to go up 25-24. The Ravens answered to tie it at 25-25, but Park closed out the match with a 27-25 win.
Hokulani Sagapolu led the Ravens with 16 kills while Regan Bruggeman added 11 kills. Eveyln Arreola had 25 digs and Cahill had 25 assists.
The Ravens (17-5, 8-2 Heart) will play Tuesday, Oct. 22 at MidAmerica Nazarene University.
